ich weiß wofür die menschen im norden sumatras kämpfen und das man das nicht mit al quaida vergleichen kann. aber trotz aller liebe zu deinem land vermisse ich objektivität. woher willst du wissen ob nicht terroristen - und die gibt es auch in sumatra - sich nicht touristen bedienen, um ihre forderungen durchzusetzen?? der islamische fundamentalismus ist auf den vormarsch - überall auf der welt - auch in indonesien und sumatra.

I grow up in Sumatra and I know very well the behavior of the people.
I've never been in Aceh or West-Sumatra (Padang) as these 2 regions are very strong in adopting islam law.
My writing wasn't to show anyone that there isn't any danger around if you travel to Indonesia. It is definitely dangerous if you travel to Aceh, Poso, and Papua.
Those are conflict area and definitely as toursits, you won't endanger yourself by travellingto such place.
North-sumatra capital city is Medan and Nias is in North-Sumatra.
Medan is the biggest City in Sumatra.
In such city no one really interested in war besides business.
I understand your concern as westerner who frequently being blackmailed by moslem extremist because they believe the westerner overuled them.
But I'm not a politican and I don't care about this issue.
My frank opinion is not to assume the whole country is in danger.
The truth is, there arealways bad news reported in western about Asian. There is rarely good news reported.
One of a recent example is the spread of SARS disease.
People don't dare to travel to Singapore or south east asia as they are warned of this disease in their media.
The reporters in Singapore interviewed a few western tourists that arrived in Singapore.
They said they received many news about the danger and discourage people to travel to Singapore.
But they're just shocked omce they arrived inSingapore, they see no one were wearing mask except healthcare workers.
People just live their normal life.

There were danger of SARS in Singapore and they're reported everywhere in western media
"The NEW truth is":
The disease is well contained and there is no need to worries about its spread.
And this NEW truth is rarely(never) reported.
The news you receive is the truth. But it could be the old truth or only half truth.
